“O LORD our Governor, bless the leaders of our land, that we may be a people at peace among ourselves and the blessing to other nations of the Earth.”
We can’t escape politics. It’s something we must face and deal with every day. I have heard many say that Christians and politics are not to be mixed. In a way that statement holds some weight, but it also denies a system of earthly governance that God created and decreed.
I will say the pulpit should never be a platform for pushing political agendas or particular politicians, thats my opinion and i believe it to be right. But that doesn’t mean we should avoid the subject. We can be Christian and have opinions on how our country should be governed.
I know for a fact that what we see in our political system is nothing new. The in fighting, backbiting, lies and hidden truths comes with the territory when kings, rulers, govenors and Presidents are concerned. But we cannot dismiss the clear picture that God has appointed these people, and we should pray for their success. That success brings Glory to God and blesses His people and nonbelievers alike.
Our country is a mess. We have politicians looking out for self interest rather than the interest of the country. A justice system that has failed us all. And a White House that bans Christian celebrations which have been held for years, but allows transgenders to celebrate their unholy lifestyle on the White House lawn, while topless.
We have a right to be angry but we must never forget that these leaders are given to us by God and they need our prayers.
- Daniel 2:21 “He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings”
- Romams 13:1 “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God”
There are times when nations struggle and fall. It seems fitting to me to say that I see this nation in that horrible predicament now. The sins of this people as a whole only shows a nation in rebellion. And I believe our terrible leadership is a direct judgment by the hand of God.
In the book of Judges we see the people reject God, and this led to complete disorder. A few times we read “in those days there was no king” Judges 17:6, 18:1, 19:1. Isreal would turn to God then go back to idolatry. Israel went through 12 leaders/judges in the book of Judges.
Israel finally entered into its monarchy period with Samuel. He was their first prophet and last judge. A man who had his share of mistakes but judged Israel all the days of his life (1 Sam 7:15).
We are under no monarchy though. We get new leaders locally, statewide, and nationally all the times it seems. Someone is always campaigning, telling us what we want to hear and then going back on their word many times, if not the majority of the time.
Anger should not cloud our minds from what God wants from us, with a good or bad leader. Putting political affiliation aside, for the good of our family, country, and countries of the world, we should always be in prayer for our civil leaders. Praying for God to guide them in His ways. Praying for their health and safety. And praying that they would lead as they would wish to be led.
Great leaders are a blessing to any society and those blessings can spill over to other cultures around the world. Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, we should desire our leaders success. We should pray that they lead rightly, judge according to God’s word and leave office with the nation better than when they began the job. It does us all a great deal of good when those in authority enter their position and end their position with our prayers with them and all leaders of all nations.
